CUSTOMER LOGIN (E-MAIL)
avast! for Kerio
avast! for Kerio is a special version of avast! antivirus, designed
exclusively to work with products developed by Kerio Technologies.
Currently, avast! for Kerio supports the following products:
• Kerio Mail Server
• Kerio WinRoute Firewall
Please note, if you already own avast! Server Edition, then you don‘t
have to install this product. Instead, you can use your existing avast!
Server Edition installation to provide virus scanning capability to Kerio
products. All you have to do is purchase the appropriate number of
licenses for ‘avast! for Kerio‘, and update the supplied license fi le to the
installed Server Edition. It will then be automatically recognized, and
the scanning functionality for Kerio products will be enabled.
The latest version of avast! antivirus kernel features excellent detection capabilities, combined with high
performance (data throughput). You can expect 100% detection of ITW viruses/worms (In-The-Wild, viruses
already spreading) and excellent detection of Trojan horses. The kernel is certifi ed by ICSA, and frequently takes
part in the tests of Virus Bulletin magazine, yielding the VB100% award multiple times.
Updater
Updater is the second component of avast! for Kerio. It provides both a manual and fully automatic mode for updating.
In manual mode, the user (administrator) has to perform the update by pressing the corresponding button in the user interface, or by running a special batch fi le. The automatic mode, however, downloads and installs the updates according to a preset time interval. The automatic updates are activated by default, with the time interval set to 4 hours. This interval is short enough to provide high level of protection on all occasions. Thanks to our technology of incremental updates, the size of the data transfer is very low. The typical size of virus database updates is in the
tens of KB. Additionally, ALWIL Software performs virus database updates twice a week, or, in the case of serious new virus infections, immediately.
User Interface
avast! for Kerio contains a simple user interface, off ering you basic control of the program. Using this interface, you can also set the parameters for automatic updates. It is important to note that avast! for Kerio does NOT contain a common scanner to search for viruses in the fi le system (either on demand or resident). avast! Server Edition is
required if you need such a scanner.
Kerio Product Integration
avast! for Kerio is mainly a technology product - it does not perform any scanning itself. The scanning requests are given by the Kerio product - and it is necessary to confi gure Kerio accordingly (so that the system knows it should use avast!).
